Never Arrive but Forever Faithful

I’ve had this blog for a while but procrastination set in but I think the timing for this right, with Lecrae getting recognition for his Mixtape and many artist wanting the same thing to happen for them. But whether you’re an artist or just a regular person enjoy this blog.

We often want our talents to be recognized, affirmation is a human need, I’m reminded of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. At the top of the pyramid of needs is Self-actualization: the achievement of one’s full potential through creativity, independence, spontaneity, and a grasp of the real world. In reality we wish to be the best and find an arrival point in our life for contentment, but what makes this a challenge often is the American dream and comparing ourselves to others. These two things drive us in the Western world to ambition which is good but also never satisfied.

In my ambitions to be a Professor which is my lifelong career goal (I can’t rap forever) and in this season of desiring to be a great Hiphop artist, I can look at the platform of others in teaching and music and say why am I not there? But really Yahweh has ordained when everyone gets their time to have their platform and what is the size of their platform. Yes, you got to deal with being responsible and working at your craft because if I not a good communicator, don’t know my the theories in my field, nor a skillful emcee I can’t except to have a platform in my field (sometimes I wonder about the last one when I hear the radio). But when I do wonder about when is my time coming or how big things are going to be I’m reminded of various scriptures.

Ecclesiastes 3:11a He has made everything beautiful in its time.

This means the seasons we are in are valuable and there is a purpose which we’ll understand once we see the big picture Yahweh has crafted.

John 21:22b what is that to you? You follow me!

Jesus says this to Peter after telling him how he’s going to die a martyr’s death for the Glory of Jesus’ name. Peter then wonder what about John, what’s going to happen to him? Jesus says that to him to remind him where his focus should be, faithfully following Jesus not comparing who accomplishes what.

Just read the whole chapter it’ll show you stories of people conquering armies and being saved from lions yet also people being beaten and killed. But they have one thing in common, faith in Yahweh some die never seeing the promises Yahweh spoke being fulfilled but it doesn’t negate them having great faith. It shows in the end our faith only promise is Yahweh is pleased with us because we place confidence in Him not our dreams and goals.

Self-actualization can be achieve when we know our identity is in the Messiah and regardless of feeling over-looked or dealing with setbacks Yahweh has the best for us in mind. Sometimes the best for us is not always comfortable but Yahweh gets maximum Glory, true Success is faithfulness to Yahweh.

Many times, as Christian theists, we find ourselves on the defensive against the critiques and questions of atheists. Sometimes, in the midst of arguments and proofs, we miss the importance of conversation. These questions, then, are meant to be a part of a conversation. They are not, in and of themselves, arguments or “proofs” for God. They are commonly asked existential or experiential questions that both atheists and theists alike can ponder.

1. If there is no God, “the big questions” remain unanswered, so how do we answer the following questions: Why is there something rather than nothing? This question was asked by Aristotle and Leibniz alike – albeit with differing answers. But it is an historic concern. Why is there conscious, intelligent life on this planet, and is there any meaning to this life? If there is meaning, what kind of meaning and how is it found? Does human history lead anywhere, or is it all in vain since death is merely the end? How do you come to understand good and evil, right and wrong without a transcendent signifier? If these concepts are merely social constructions, or human opinions, whose opinion does one trust in determining what is good or bad, right or wrong? If you are content within atheism, what circumstances would serve to make you open to other answers?

Yes Hi-jacked Kanye, Unlike some people in Hiphop I’ll admit to my biting (Article on Biting coming soon) but to what I wish to talk about the pursuit of our dreams. With me having various gifts I have had to figure my path out of how do I wish to use them and where should I focus?

God is our Foundation and our Architect

Our Foundation

Proverb 16:3 Commit your work to the LORD, and your plans will be established. Yahweh is the one we should strive to serve and have Him be glorified in our lives. Glory has to do with great praise but also refers to His weightiness, understanding that’s part of Yahweh being glorified, Does He hold weigh in your Dreams? Do we exploit Him for our dreams or is He at the center of our dreams?

Our Architect

Proverb 16:9 The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps. If Yahweh is central in our dreams He’s is the one who constructs how our dreams look. He’s design His people to get Him glory and He knows to best means for each of us to glorify Him. We will have season we being prepared to do His and we will have seasons we are living in those moments. In both seasons of life there will be time that are uneasy; Look at the Apostles they were called by Jesus but 11 died as martyrs and 1 was exiled (That ain’t fun) but that was His will from them and though them Christianity has spread across the world. Trust in Him as your hope, for in Him we can confident He has the best planned for us.

Sharpened through Community

Proverb 27:17 Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another. Community is an important thing since your talents are pointless if you’re not sharing them. I’d be foolish to say I’m a gifted emcee but I just keep my recordings to myself, that’s not encouraging nor serving anybody. Also community will affirm your gift, for me I’ve been affirmed that I’m design to rap and I have aptitude for knowledge so I uses these to serve others and I’ve also been affirmed I can’t sing so don’t expect unto Yahweh in private or public worship NEVER on Stage or recording (I’ll NEVER use Auto-tune). Community should encourage us to pursue where Yahweh has gifted us and be a voice of reason to say where we should use other people since we’re not gifted in that sphere.

Don’t Waste Your Life

In closing, Let’s glorify Yahweh our creator with our dreams not use Him as a stepping stone but make Him the Foundation and Architect of our dreams. Let’s use Community to affirm what are our gifts. And I’ll give one more thing, know yourself and know what you’re passionate about for that too is going to be a factor in the pursuit of your dreams.

What it do, what’s the Deal, what’s the good people, allow me to introduce myself: I’m Shane Kidd from Atlanta by way of Dallas, University of North Texas alumni, and I’m a Sociologist . Also I’m an Emcee not rapper though I do rap but I’m not just a rapper because everybody raps, think about it you probably know at least five people who rap. And this is the thing that irks me about my dream, every Joe Somebody thinks they can rap. Sadly, they can but it’s not good or need works (trust me from the demos I’ve gotten, I haven’t been impressed). The other sad thing people don’t want to hear that, they want to believe they can be the next major thing when maybe they’re just called to be a librarian, or maybe they’ve been designed to do music some other capacity that doesn’t involve them on stage.For me I take this seriously Hiphop, it is an art and should not be taken lightly if you wish to do it, yes I know you hear (insert song at 12 yr old could write) on the radio and think I can do that, but if you don’t know what poly-syllables, alliteration, assonance, and double-entendres are then please find something else to do, not saying lyrical is the only way to do it but be aware of your craft.

For me, my journey has been making sure I’m dope enough to do this and by hearing from many other solid Emcees affirming me. Note: I said Emcees not my home boys but other Emcees. For me though I understand I may not make a living off this and fine with that but I don’t settle for is being no talent bum trying to be something he’s not. What I do is art, art that’s entertaining, art that conveys truth, beauty, and goodness on a higher thought. Cornel West said it best “The challenge artists face today is whether to be an underground, unheard genius, or to dilute their art for the marketplace”. I’ll gladly take my place as underground and unheard genius but know this while I may not change the world I will at least touch.

Thus, the issue with the celebrity culture surrounding certain pastors and organisations is not ultimately one of linguistic definition or of those who use the term with a certain amount of elasticity or even incompetence. The issue is that there is a real problem — in fact, many real problems — to which some are trying to draw attention. There is a problem with the yob aesthetic, the arrogant stage swagger, the stand-up routines, the obsession with talking about sex in sermons which puts some of these conference headlining pastoral role models about as far from Paul’s vision of leadership as possible; there is a problem with pastors who tell their people they will only visit them in hospital once they have been placed in a body bag; there is a problem with pastors who make videos which ape the aesthetics of the mainstream media and focus on the pastor, not the pastor’s God; there is a problem with churches of thousands of people, few of whom ever get to meet an elder, let alone the pastor; there is a problem with church planting strategy that is so wedded to the cult of the one man that he has to be skyped in to the community; there is a problem when a man has to phone the librarian at Westminster Seminary with a pastoral issue because nobody at his home church of thousands has the time to speak to an ordinary church member about his crisis of faith.

Call it what you like. I call it the culture which grows up around celebrities. Maybe I am hopelessly wrong in my choice of terms. You may certainly choose others which fit better. But like internet pornography, I would rather spend time exposing the problems for what they are than debating semantic qualifications.
